Last Friday (23/3/2012) I got home from work and found a message on the answering machine from the department of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Victoria. It was too late then to ring back and being a good solid government agency, of course they weren’t open on the weekend so I gave them a call back on Monday (26/3/2012). It seems as of 2010 Births, Deaths and Marriages have taken over administration of the donor birth registry and a woman who used me as a sperm donor as part of the Monash IVF program has made a request for identifying information about me. The call was to check that I was the correct person and to let me know that they were sending me a set of forms and a letter by registered post (so I would have to sign for it) which would state that a request for information has been made and giving me a set of check boxes as options of what information I would like to allow to release to her. Alternatively there is a check box to say that I would not like to give any identifying information.
The letter has not arrived yet. It is a hassle having to go into the post office to pick things up though (since I live 1.5 hours away from work and have to leave before the post office opens and get home after it shuts). Why they can’t just use email is beyond me it would be much faster and is easily as secure. Regardless, I will look forward to seeing what the letter says.
