One of my pet hates on the internet is when you can’t find information or a picture that you know is out there, or if you are looking for an image say and all you can find are these little tiny versions of pictures re-posted every where but never the source image. For instance there is a great web site called the Fail Blogs. It consists of pictures of things people or animals do that have gone incredibly wrong. Some are of people being really creative, eg:
Most are just people being massively stupid and/or lazy, e.g.:
But some are so spectactular that you wonder, how the hell! e.g.:
I took this one my self at the Bunnings at Ashfield here in Sydney. It was like that for months but finally just last year someone took the chain away:
One of my favourites though is:
That last one is great but all you can find around the internet is this image. There is no source photos, there is no news paper story about how the car got up there, and indeed no one seems to know. Every one just thinks this photo is funny so re-posts it everywhere.
Another example was when I was trying to design a uniform for our Volleyball team. I needed a T-shirt template that I could use in Corel Draw (the graphics software I use) to draw the designs on. I looked everywhere for a vector image of a T-shirt so I could scale it how I want and change the lines etc, but do you think I could find one. So in the end I just made one up and used that instead. e.g.:
The point being (finally!!) that some things shouldn’t be as difficult as they are. Finding stuff on the net is one of those things I think. Rather than just be a reposter, I wanted to be a net producer on the web, ie produce the content I post rather than sourcing it from existing material. So to that end I am going to make up a page of resources for people to use. Whenever I find that I needed something but found that it was difficult to come across I will compile it and make it available here.
